CINCINNATI, OH.- The Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, presents Gadget: Mechanics and motion in contemporary art, on view through December 1, 2006. Engineering and art have been linked throughout history. From Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks for flying machines, to the Futurist, Dadaist and Constructivist movements, artists have long been fascinated by the potential and implications of the machine. Gadget is a unique series of exhibitions which combine historical and contemporary perspective on mechanization and art in a constantly evolving gallery setting. Through a rotating display of objects and installations, this exhibition will address a common theme of mechanization and kinetics; explore historic perspectives by significant artists on the same theme; and utilize an extensive Resource Lounge to complement the exhibition and provide support material for all CAC programming. Through installations such as Swiss artists Peter Fischli and David Weiss' seminal work Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go), 1987, in which a warehouse is transformed into an arena for a massive chain reaction of mechanical cause-and-effect and chemical reactions, Gadget will provide an ever-changing museum experience for seasoned and novice visitors alike.
