ST. LOUIS.- The College & Graduate School of Art, Washington University in St. Louis and the Saint Louis Art Museum invite applications for the Henry and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellowship. Two separate Fellowships will be awarded – one for Fall 2007 – Spring 2008 and a second for Fall 2008 – Spring 2009.

The Freund Fellowship comprises two residencies of one month each. During that time, the Fellow teaches a seminar at the Washington University Graduate School of Art and develops a Currents exhibition with the Saint Louis Art Museum. The Freund Fellow works primarily with graduate students three days a week during the residency. One public lecture at Washington University or at the Saint Louis Art Museum is a component of each visit. The position requires an MFA or equivalent and a significant record of exhibitions and/or publications. Teaching experience is desirable. Candidates possessing knowledge and interest in historical and contemporary art issues across disciplines will be given preference.

Washington University in St. Louis is a medium sized, private university counted among the world’s leaders in teaching and research. The university draws students from all 50 states and approximately 120 nations. Over the years, 21 Nobel laureates have been associated with the university.

The College & Graduate School of Art are part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. The College offers a BFA in six major areas: digital imaging & photography, fashion design, painting, printmaking/drawing, sculpture and visual communications. The Graduate School offers a program of self-directed study earning an MFA in Visual Arts. The Saint Louis Art Museum is the region’s encyclopedic art museum. In addition to substantive African, Oceanic, Ancient, Islamic, and Asian collections, the Museum’s holdings are particularly strong in Modern and Contemporary art. Emerging and mid-career contemporary artist are featured three times each year in the Museum’s Currents series. The following artist have recently held the Freund Fellowship and presented new work in Currents exhibitions: Ellen Gallagher, Francis Cape, Matthew Buckingham, and Cameron Martin. Compensation: In addition to roundtrip transportation to and from St. Louis, a live/work loft studio and a rental car are provided to the Fellow during each residency. An honorarium of $6,000 is offered for each visit.
