Trondheim Kunstmuseum presents an exhibition of works by Anna Odell
The centerpiece of the exhibition is a video installation in which Odell revisits her time in a psychiatric ward and sheds light on a controversial relationship she had with a male nurse, which resulted in a pregnancy.

TRONDHEIM.- Anna Odell's latest work, "Rekonstruktion – Psyket" (Reconstruction – The Psychiatric Ward) explores complex dynamics and ethical boundaries within psychiatric care, drawing on Odell's own experiences in a psychiatric ward.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a video installation in which Odell revisits her time in a psychiatric ward and sheds light on a controversial relationship she had with a male nurse, which resulted in a pregnancy. This relationship, which clearly violated professional ethical guidelines, ultimately led to her discharge from the ward. The installation includes a filmed discussion among psychiatric professionals who discuss Odell's story without knowing about the personal connection between the patient and the nurse, gradually uncovering the ethical implications of such situations.

The exhibition also includes photographic works that explore themes such as identity, delusions, and the impact of psychiatric treatment on personal autonomy. Through this introspective and provocative work, Odell challenges viewers to consider the often blurred lines between professional care and personal involvement, and the consequences for those involved.

Anna Odell (b. 1973) is a Swedish artist and filmmaker from Stockholm, Sweden. She is known for her controversial and provocative work that challenges societal norms and conventions. Odell gained significant attention in 2009 with her art project "Unknown, Woman 2009-349701," in which she staged a psychotic episode that led to her being involuntarily committed to a psychiatric ward. The project was part of her graduation project at Konstfack, Sweden's largest art school, and highlighted the treatment of the mentally ill in society.

In 2013, she made her directorial debut with the film "Återträffen" (The Reunion), which she also wrote and starred in. The film was well-received and won several awards, including the prestigious Guldbagge Award for Best Film. "Återträffen" explores themes such as bullying and revenge and is based on Odell's own experiences from her school years.

Anna Odell's work is characterized by an in-depth exploration of human behavior, power structures, and social control, often using herself as the subject in her works. Her art and films continue to spark debate and challenge viewers to reflect on important social issues.
