PARIS.- Visitors to Halle Saint Pierre are currently experiencing the latest exhibition by Gilbert Peyre, a renowned artist whose creative works have been integral to the museum for nearly forty years. This season, Peyre presents a unique exhibition that combines carnival-inspired visuals with advanced technology, offering a distinctive experience for all who attend.
For decades, Gilbert Peyre has been a key figure at Halle Saint Pierre, continuously exploring the boundaries of outsider art and modern expression. Known as an "electromechanomania," Peyre's creations blend whimsical automatons with poetic machinery. His newest exhibition, a performance show, immerses visitors in a lively carnival setting where striking visuals meet engaging soundscapes.
"Gilbert's work demonstrates the endless possibilities of creativity," says Martine Lusardy, Director of Halle Saint Pierre. "His talent for transforming reclaimed objects with electricity, mechanics, pneumatics, and electronics not only redefines art but also brings a new sense of wonder to our everyday environment."
The exhibition features Peyre's latest workselaborate machines and poetic automatons that play central roles in captivating and sometimes dark narratives. Visitors navigate through enchanted pathways where the extraordinary comes to life, uncovering the magic often overlooked in the ordinary. From the pioneering walking chair of the early '90s to the captivating Cufiidon Profiriétaire of the Building Located on Hell and Paradise, Peyre's work continues to advance, showcasing his unique combination of engineering skill and artistic imagination.
Peyre's path from building toys in his childhood in Annot to becoming a celebrated artist in Paris is as intriguing as his artwork. After exploring various careers and developing his expertise in electromechanics and computer programming, he emerged as a distinctive artist bridging engineering and visual arts. Collaborations with musicians, actors, and fellow engineers have led to large-scale performances that are both technically sophisticated and artistically meaningful.
This exhibition represents one of Peyre's most ambitious projects to date. With contributions from new collaborators like Achille Orsoni and electronics engineer Robert Breton, the show includes detailed performances that highlight the seamless interaction between machines, puppets, and human actors. Visitors are invited to explore surreal environments where technology and imagination merge into dynamic expressions of creativity.
Under Martine Lusardy's leadership since 1994, Halle Saint Pierre has established itself as a leading Parisian institution for outsider and singular art. The museum's commitment to innovative exhibitions, specialized publications, and international collaborations ensures that each visit offers fresh and inspiring artistic experiences. Peyre's current exhibition continues this tradition, providing a space to engage with art that challenges conventional views and celebrates unique creativity.
"Gilbert's work encourages us to view the world in a new light," Lusardy remarks. "His machines tell stories in motion, inviting us to rediscover the beauty and magic in our everyday lives."
As Gilbert Peyre's latest creations are on display at Halle Saint Pierre, the museum welcomes everyone to explore a world where creativity has no limits. Whether familiar with Peyre's work or encountering it for the first time, visitors will find the exhibition both inspiring and enjoyable.
