Model, LGBT activist, and genderbending fashion icon
Elton Ilirjani, also known as HANKO, left a lasting impression at New York Fashion Week during South Korean designer Jinsun Lee's TRIPLEROOT runway show on February 9, as part of the Global Fashion Collective showcase. Known for pioneering the genderless model movement, Ilirjani brought his signature blend of artistry and activism to the runway, captivating the audience with two memorable performances.
TRIPLEROOT, a brand defined by its simple silhouettes, elegant aesthetic, and modern take on classic styles, consistently incorporates artistic collaborations into its collection line. This season, designer Jinsun Lee, whose experience spans design, merchandising, and marketing, perfectly embodied the brand's core values: Young in spirit, rich in passion and proactive in life". Her aim is to present a unique sensibility to contemporary women through sensory design, high-quality fabrics and an easy fit between classic and casual mix and match.
Ilirjani's first appearance at this runway show was a performance art collaboration with renowned artist Yun SongA, celebrated for her artwork, which was exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The performance began with Elton holding a large white cloth, dynamically painted live by Yun SongA into a mythical South Korean bird. In a powerful and symbolic gesture, Ilirjani then took the painting and wore it down the runway, transforming the artwork into a wearable statement.
For his second appearance on the runway, Elton showcased one of the latest looks from TRIPLEROOT, donning a striking grey outfit designed by Jinsun Lee. The look perfectly embodied the brand's modern "old money" aesthetic.
Elton Ilirjani's presence at New York Fashion Week further solidifies his position as a leading figure in the fashion world and beyond. With a combined global following exceeding 12 million, he uses his platform to champion LGBT rights and advocate for a more inclusive industry. He made history as the first genderless model to walk the runway at Seoul Fashion Week in 2023 and continually breaks barriers in the fashion industry.
Beyond his runway appearances, Ilirjani is also a successful entrepreneur, serving as the CEO and founder of HeadHunter Karriera LLC, a socially responsible company dedicated to forwarding human rights, women's rights, and LGBT rights in the workplace.
From receiving the Philanthropist & Activist Of The Year Award at the Out East End Impact Awards to the Influencer Awards in Miami and the Trailblazer Awards at the NYC International Fashion Film Festival, Elton Ilirjani, or HANKO, continues to prove it is possible to be an international superstar, business mogul, and a powerful voice for change, all while remaining unapologetically himself.
