OLD WESTBURY.- The Amelie A. Wallace Gallery at SUNY College at Old Westbury will present beginning November 8 "Sculptures in Four Dimensions," an exhibit featuring the artwork of Marta Chilindron and Karin Waisman. Their work reflects upon the concept of space and perception, including a fourth dimension: time. Turning that dimension into a central factor, they both create a sense of awareness regarding the mental construction lying beneath the materialization of space. Curated by Ana Tiscornia, a member of the faculty of the College's Visual Arts Department, the exhibition at the Wallace Gallery will run through December 8, 2006. There will be an opening reception held from 4-7 p.m. on November 8. Admission for the gallery is free and the exhibit will be open from Monday-Thursday from 1-5 p.m. and by appointment.

Marta Chilindron earned a degree in visual arts from SUNY College at Old Westbury. Her work has been shown in PS1 Museum of Contemporary Art, The New Museum, El Museo del Barrio, the Queens Museum, the Clock Tower Gallery, Cecilia de Torres Gallery, Elga Wimmer Gallery, Exit Art and Cavin Morris Gallery, and in many other Latin American and European Art Institutions. She was a member of the National Studio Program at PS1 Museum of Contemporary Art, was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Grant, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Award, and Anonymous Was A Woman. Her work had been reviewed in Art in America, Art Nexus, New York Arts, Flash Art, Atlantica Int. Revista de las Artes, Artnet.com, among other publications. Karin Waisman received an architectural degree from University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Master in Fine Arts from Cornell University. She had shown her work in galleries and museums in the United States, Europe and South America. She had participated in numerous competitions for public art commissions: Puzzled, a cast aluminum piece 36 feet tall is installed at the entrance of the Fine Arts Building at SUNY Plattsburgh. She also had outdoor pieces at Socrates Sculpture Park, The Sculpture Center, and Art OMI Sculpture Park. Her work had been reviewed in the New York Times, Art News, Bomb Magazine, Arte al Dia among other publications.

The Amelie A. Wallace Gallery is located in the Campus Center of SUNY College at Old Westbury and is managed under the direction of the faculty of the College's Visual Arts Department. Through courses of study that lead to B.A. and B.S. degrees in Visual Arts, the College prepares its students for careers in the art, publishing, graphic and web design worlds. The program features faculty members of international acclaim, including a Guggenheim Fellow and National Endowment for the Arts award winners whose work is represented in the collections of such institutions as the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
