Director
Application deadline: May 4, 2025. Starting date: January 1, 2026
Kunsthall Stavanger invites applications for the position of Director, a role that offers the opportunity to shape the future of one of Norways most dynamic contemporary art institutions.
The Board seeks a visionary and strategic-minded Director to lead the institution into its next chapter. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience in the visual arts sector, a strong curatorial track record, and a nuanced understanding of the contemporary art field. We are looking for a candidate who excels in institutional development, strategic planning, and financial management, with a deep commitment to supporting artists, fostering critical artistic discourse, and guiding a small and dedicated team towards the implementation of the Kunsthalls program. Housed in a historic 1920s building, Kunsthall Stavanger is at a moment of transition and growth. The incoming Director will be expected to explore innovative possibilities for the future development of the institutions physical space, ensuring its continued relevance as a site for artistic production and engagement.
While English is the working language, proficiency in a Scandinavian language is highly advantageous.
The Director reports to the Board. The position is a fixed-term contract for five years, beginning January 1, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The workplace is centrally located in Stavanger, Norway.
Kunsthall Stavanger is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, and we encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
