Over the past four decades, Burtynskys photographic work has centered on capturing landscapes that are as beautiful as they are unsettling. In The Coast Mountains, Burtynsky shifts his focus to the pristine beauty of British Columbias natural environment, juxtaposing its breathtaking glaciers and icefields with the sobering reality of climate change. Central to the exhibition is a captivating image of the iconic Black Tusk, featuring miniscule hikers navigating its jagged ridges. A distinctive and instantly recognizable landmark, this volcanic formation is one of the most famous peaks along the Sea-to-Sky Corridor in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia.
Burtynskys highly detailed images are equally awe-inspiring and troubling, with regard to the loss of glacial environments in spectacular settings, says Dr. Curtis Collins, Director & Chief Curator of the Audain Art Museum.
The Audain Art Museum produced this exhibition, which is part of Vancouvers 2025 Capture Photography Festivals Featured Exhibitions Program.
