Magnificent Jewels achieves $72.3 million at the May 2025 Geneva season

GENEVA.- Christie's Geneva continued its Luxury Week with Magnificent Jewels Including A Bouquet of Gems: A Superb Collection of Jewels by JAR on Wednesday 14 May 2025. The auction realised CHF60,493,260 I $72,363,223, selling 100% by lot and with an impressive 77% of lots selling above their high estimate. The sale offered a total of 115 lots and captivated bidders for a thrilling four hours thanks to the extraordinary level of interest from bidders. Global bidding and buying for the auction came from 45 countries, with 46% of registrants from EMEA, 26% from the US and 20% from Asia.

The top lot of the live auction, a Fancy Deep Blue diamond, was purchased by Moussaieff Jewellers. The emerald­ cut gem of 6.24 carats, mounted by Boucheron, set an auction record price per carat for a deep blue jewel. This extraordinary gem saw competitive bidding for over five minutes, finally selling for CHF10,640,000 I $12,727,777, ($2,039,707 per carat).

Exceptionally strong demand was seen for coloured diamonds and precious stones, particularly for the vibrant and rare varieties. Among the highlights was a Burmese, cushion shaped, ruby of 10.18 carats which captivated collectors and gem enthusiasts with its deep hues, exquisite and rare cut, achieving CHF 3,493,500 I$4,178,993 (price per carat: $411,000). The fancy, vivid blue oval-shaped diamond ring of 3.68 carats set by Graff, sold for CHF4,885,000 I$5,843,533 (price per carat: $1,587,916) and was purchased by Lawrence Graff. Natural pearls doubled their pre-sale estimates, highlighted by a pair of drop-shaped natural pearls selling for CHF 831,600 I $994,776.

Magnificent Jewels also featured A Bouquet of Gems: A Superb Collection of Jewels by JAR. This private collection of 21 creations designed by JAR realised CHF 5,943,830 I$7,132,596, and was led by the exceptional "Apricot Blossom" bangle, selling for CHF2,374,258 I$2,840,124, nearly ten times its pre-sale estimate. 111e sale closed with an extraordinary diamond necklace by JAR, selling for nearly five times the pre-sale estimate, CHF2,162,500I $2,840,124. Throughout the auction the atmosphere at Hotel des Bergues in Geneva was exhilarating, with great energy filling the room, on the phones and resonating online.
