LONDON.- An extensive talks and events programme accompanies Classic Art London, the new art event which takes place in galleries in Mayfair and St. James's, Cecil Court and Belgravia (Pimlico Road) from 23 June to 4 July 2025. Leading art dealers specialising in old and modern masterworks are staging museum quality exhibitions. The selling exhibitions are accompanied by talks and events for international collectors, museum buyers and those who appreciate or wish to discover more traditional art genres. Booking opens on Monday, 2 June and most talks and events are free, but early booking is encouraged.
A full day's programme sponsored by art insurers Lockton at the Society of Antiquaries will take place on 30 June. Appealing to curators, museum professionals and collectors, the panel discussions will cover Shared Ownership in the Art World; Climate Change - the challenges for art institutions; and Fifty Shades of Latin American Private Museums by Lassla Esquivel who will be using a selection of representative case studies, to give an overview of the different strategies that specific types of Latin American private museums use to operate.
The day finishes with a celebration of Turner at 250 moderated by the Burlington's editor Christopher Baker, who looked after the National Gallery of Scotland's Turner collection for many years, the panel of art historians includes Dr Jacqueline Riding, former curator of the Palace of Westminster and consultant on the film 'Mr Turner', Gillian Forrester, who was senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Yale Centre of British Art, has written several books on Turner, and Nicola Moorby, author of 'Turner and Constable' (2025).
While these may appeal more to curators and collectors, Classic Art London is also hosting a wide range of talks and events with more general appeal - from a Georgian Tour to a Q&A with leading Royal portraiture artist Nicky Philipps. A special art tour around Fortnum & Mason exclusively organised for Classic Art London; a tour around the galleries focusing on British art as well as an introduction on how to find the perfect frame at Paul Mitchell, specifically designed for curators.
Media partner Country Life magazine hosts an entertaining evening with leading figures from the art world discussing The Piece Id Never Part With. Panellists include Country Life and Vanity Fair contributor Patrick Monahan, a native New Yorker, who is consulted by collectors and museums on both sides of the Atlantic and who helped arrange the loan of Lord Leighton's 'Flaming June' from the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico to the RA last year. Proceeds from ticket sales for this
talk will go towards The Society of Antiquaries of London's 'buy a square foot of Burlington House fundraising campaign'. Tickets are £25 which includes a drink.
Friday 27 June sees a special late night at participating dealers in Cecil Court, in conjunction with The Burlington Magazine and Ben Elwes Fine Art are staging a Cubism Concert - a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of the best cubism inspired music by composers like Stravinsky surrounded by Cubist works of art. A quartet by Royal College of Music students will present a selection of short pieces.
