MANCHESTER, NH.- The Currier Museum of Art announces the appointment of Anastasia Kinigopoulo as Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. A recipient of the prestigious Award for Excellence from the American Association of Museum Curators (AAMC), Kinigopoulo will shape the next chapter of modern and contemporary art programming at the Currier.

Kinigopoulo comes to the Currier with experience at top arts institutions across the country, including the Horseman Foundation, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, where she was a Lois F. McNeil Fellow. With expertise ranging from Early American material culture to contemporary Native American art, Kinigopoulo excels at creating robust exhibitions that spark conversations and enrich understanding.

Most recently, she served as the Director and Curator of the Horseman Foundation in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she developed a collection of more than 400 paintings and sculptures from artists historically omitted from the canon of 20th century art. This collection included seminal works by Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Norman Lewis, Alma Thomas, Kay WalkingStick, Howardena Pindell, and George Morrison.
During her tenure at the Columbus Museum of Art, Kinigopoulo co-organized and contributed to several nationally acclaimed exhibitions. She received the 2020 AAMC Award for Excellence for her work on the touring exhibition Art After Stonewall, 1969-1989, which was named one of the decades top ten exhibitions by ArtNews. Other notable projects include Subversion and Surrealism in the Art of Honore Sharrer; Open Borders: Pueblo Painting and Modernism in the American High Desert, 1920-1937; and I Too Sing America: The Harlem Renaissance at 100, the catalogue for which received the James A. Porter and David C. Driskell Book Award for African American Art History.
