MISSOULA, MT.- The Missoula Art Museum announced that at its board meeting held on Tuesday, June 24, the Board of Directors (unanimously) voted to appoint Brandon Reintjes as the museums next Executive Director, effective July 1, 2025.
Reintjes has served as MAMs Senior Curator for the past decade, and his thoughtful curatorial vision, deep relationships with artists, and strong record of scholarship and collaboration have long made him an essential part of the museums success. His appointment marks a significant and exciting moment for MAM as it transitions from the transformative 35-year leadership of Laura Millin, who will retire on June 30, 2025.
Brandon is someone we know well, and he has earned our respect with his keen eye for exceptional artwork and his thoughtful demeanor, said Matt Gibson, President of MAMs Board of Directors. During the search process, he distinguished himself with a clear, articulate grasp of our vision. Were confident he will remain faithful to MAMs mission to champion contemporary art rooted in our local cultural landscape, and were delighted to welcome him as our new Executive Director.
Reintjes emerged as the clear choice from a highly competitive pool of international candidates. His curatorial excellence in contemporary art, combined with his steady and collaborative leadership style, stood out as indispensable qualities to guide MAM into its future.
In addition to his tenure at MAM, Reintjes has held curatorial roles at leading institutions across the country, including the Montana Museum of Art & Culture, Speed Art Museum (KY), Akron Art Museum (OH), and the Holter Museum of Art (MT). He is the author of numerous acclaimed publications, such as Shape of Things: New Approaches to Indigenous Abstraction, and is a regular contributor to leading journals, including The Journal of Modern Craft, Ceramics: Art & Perception, and Ceramics Monthly. He holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MA in Curatorial and Critical Studies from the University of Louisville.
In the coming months, MAMs Board and staff will work closely with Reintjes to ensure a smooth and steady leadership transition, establishing a strong foundation for this new chapter in MAMs history. Together, MAM remains committed to advancing its mission and deepening its connection to the Missoula community and beyond. As MAM celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, it looks ahead with enthusiasm to the vision and leadership Reintjes will bring to shape tis future.
