FLORENCE.- The "Fotografia Tracce Fiorentine" (Photography Florentine Traces) exhibition series is set to captivate audiences once again at the popular Trattoria 4 Leoni. Following successful showcases of Franco Cammarata, Lorenzo Bojola, and Massimo DAmato, the series will present new works by Lapo Pecchioli, Gianluca Sgherri, and Mario Strippini in three upcoming installments from September 2025 to March 2026. These exhibitions will transform the historic restaurant in Piazza della Passera, nestled in Florence's vibrant Oltrarno district, into a unique gallery space.
Curated by art and photography historian Anna Maria Amonaci and spearheaded by Trattoria 4 Leoni owner Stefano Di Puccio, the series delves into the profound connection between a photographer's artistic eye and their formative surroundings. It particularly highlights Florence's architectural harmony and evocative atmosphere as a muse.
The initial phase of the series offered diverse perspectives: Franco Cammarata's celebration of timeless urban and natural landscapes, Lorenzo Bojola's blend of nature photography and artistic sensibility, and Massimo DAmato's ongoing reflection on historical and social memory through meticulously composed images.
The next chapter of "Florentine Traces" begins on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, with an exhibition by Lapo Pecchioli. Born in 1990, the young Florentine photographer and filmmaker is known for his refined and rigorous analog work. Pecchioli's vision merges landscape with human introspection, drawing parallels to masters like Ansel Adams. His images, captured in various countries, offer a meditation on beauty and human essence, creating an intimate dialogue with nature through their pristine clarity. The selection for the trattoria maintains a strong connection to tradition, aiming to capture the authenticity of his subjects and landscapes.
Starting Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the spotlight shifts to Gianluca Sgherri. Sgherri's work intricately weaves photography and painting, crafting a dreamlike world that floats between reality and imagination, memory and transformation. His pieces evoke inner landscapes and evolving visions of reality, playing with perceptions, symbols, and suggestions. For "Tracce Fiorentine," Sgherri offers a visual commentary on a constantly evolving world, delivering a poetic yet often unsettling experience for viewers.
The series will conclude with Mario Strippini, a Florentine artist born in 1943, whose exhibition runs from January 14 to March 15, 2026. Active since 1968, Strippini's creative journey spans from documentary photography to conceptual minimalism and a full embrace of postmodernism in the 1980s. His exploration of space and form combines analytical rigor with expressive freedom. Strippini invites observers to look beyond the surface, transforming each image into a realm of poetic and conceptual discovery.
The "Tracce Fiorentine" project is rooted in the idea that a photographer's gaze carries the imprint of their formative places, much like Giorgio Vasari's observations on Italian painting schools. Through this series, each artist offers their unique "Florentine vision," whether through urban geometries, interior landscapes, or visual harmonies.
