Christie's to offer a remarkable 40-bottle vertical of Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
40-vintage vertical of Spottswoode's legendary Cabernet Sauvignon (extending from the inaugural 1982 vintage to 2021) | Estimate $10,000-20,000.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- This September, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Spottswoode's iconic Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Christie's will present an extraordinary vertical encompassing all 40 vintages ever produced—from 1982 through 2021—consigned directly from the private cellar of the Novak family, and will be offered with an estimate of $10,000-20,000. This remarkable lot will be offered in Fine & Rare Wines Online: LA Edition, with bidding open from September 4 to September 18. The seller proceeds will be donated by the Novak family to Napa Green, a pioneering leader in sustainability and climate action within the wine industry.

Chris Munro, Christie's Americas Head of Wine and Spirits says: "This offering is as historic as it is heartfelt—a complete, impeccably preserved 40-year vertical from one of Napa's most revered estates, consigned directly from the family who built its legacy. We're honored to bring this to market and to support Napa Green in the process, aligning with the Novak family's deep commitment to environmental stewardship."

The lot features one 750ml bottle of each vintage produced, offering collectors a rare opportunity to experience the evolution of the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon across four decades. Every bottle has been impeccably cellared by the Novak family since its bottling at the estate, ensuring pristine provenance and condition. With extremely limited quantities remaining from many of the earlier vintages, this offering represents a truly unique and never-before-released collection.

In addition to the 40-bottle vertical, the winning bidder will receive an invitation to attend Spottswoode's Annual Vertical Tasting, taking place on Monday, November 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the historic estate in St. Helena, California. This marks the first time the event will be open to a member of the public. Hosted by Beth Novak, President & CEO, and Winemaker Aron Weinkauf, the morning will feature a comprehensive blind tasting of the past 20 vintages of Spottswoode's Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (2002–2023). The tasting will be followed by an informal lunch with the Spottswoode team.

Beth Novak, President & CEO of Spottswoode says: “We taste with curiosity and speak candidly about each wine, refining our understanding of the vineyard across two decades,” “The insights we gain are shared each year in our annual newsletter, capturing the evolution of the estate.

Nestled on the western edge of St. Helena at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the 45-acre Spottswoode Estate was founded in 1882. Under the stewardship of the Novak family since 1972—beginning with visionary founder Mary Novak and now carried forward by her daughters, Beth and Lindy Novak—the estate has become one of the world's most respected and environmentally conscious wineries. Spottswoode has been organically farmed since 1985, embraced biodynamic practices in 2008, and achieved Regenerative Organic Certification in 2022, cementing its role as a leader in sustainable winegrowing.
