GWANGJU.- The National Asian Culture Center welcomes 13 creators from six countries to Gwangju for the ACC CREATORS 2025 Residency, which commenced in August and continues through November. The four-month program invites artists, researchers, and technologists to explore the theme The Intelligence Age through cross-disciplinary research and experimental production, culminating in a public showcase in November.

Since 2015, the ACC CREATORS Residency has supported innovative projects by practitioners who use technology in transformative ways to expand the boundaries of creative expression. This year’s edition focuses on five art and technology categories. Following an international open call, eight teams (12 participants) from Asia, Europe, and the Americas were selected, with an additional participant joining through ACC’s West Asia Network initiative in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Art Futures.

Participants are developing projects across interactive installations, wearable devices, 3D scanning, motion capture, kinetic media, audiovisual art, and immersive sound. The program opened on August 1 with an orientation, a tour of the ACC’s ACT Studios, and a “5·18 Walk” visiting May 18th National Cemetery and 5·18 Archive, tracing the historical and literary background of Han Kang’s novel Human Acts to connect with Gwangju’s democratic legacy.

Over the residency period, ACC offers thematic lectures by invited experts, production workshops to refine concepts and methodologies, one-on-one mentorship, and research tours to expand each project. In addition, the Lecture & Presentation program on August 20 will provide a platform for participants to share their ideas with art and technology professionals, artists, and partner organizations, fostering both domestic and regional networks.

The residency concludes with a public showcase from November 25 to December 7, marking the ACC’s 10th anniversary. The exhibition will present works across five categories—art and technology, kinetic media, audiovisual, mixed reality, and immersive sound—alongside talks with notable past residency artists, as well as performances, workshops, and discussions led by the 2025 participants.

As the ACC CREATORS Residency marks its tenth year, the ACC reaffirms its position as an internationally recognized platform for convergence and creation, and looks ahead to presenting works that offer diverse perspectives on the evolving relationship between humans and technology.
