JULY The Royal Academy of Arts in London opened the exhibit Modigliani and his Models through October 15. The Wadsworth Atheneum acquired two major paintings. The Guggenheim announced plans to open an art museum in Abu Dhabi. The Auckland Art Gallery celebrated the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt van Rijns birth (1606-1669) with the exhibition Masters of the Bitten Line: Etching in the Age of Rembrandt. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art opened the Bloch Building. The National Gallery in Washington opened Ludwig Mond's Bequest: A Gift. Henri Rousseau: Jungles in Paris, opened at the National Gallery of Art. The National Gallery London presented Passion for Paint. The Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM) announced the commencement of construction on its new museum facility. The Museo del Prado opened The Hidden Line: Underdrawing in 15th and 16th-century Paintings. Tates Trustees unveiled bold plans to transform Tate Modern into a new museum for 21st Century Britain.
