SEPTEMBER The Demuth Museum celebrated its twenty-five year history with the exhibition 25 Years of the Demuth: Homage and Hurrah! Two years after the Edvard Munch masterpieces The Scream and Madonna were stolen from the Munch Museum, Oslo Police recovered the two masterpieces in a bold daylight raid, according to the authorities. The first exhibition at the Louvre devoted to American artists, “American Artists and the Louvre” opened with a selection of thirty masterworks of American painting. The Norton Museum of Art opened Mary Cassatt: Pastels and Drawings, a carefully selected exhibition featuring nine works by one of America's most admired artists. Titian, The Power of Portaits opened at the Musée du Luxembourg. The V&A’s opened Leonardo da Vinci: Experience, Experiment and Design. An exhibition celebratated the fifth centennial of the death of Andrea Mantegna (Isola di Carturo, 1431 c. – Mantova, 1506) in Italy. The names of the 5 new Praemium Imperiale Laureates have been announced: Kusama Yayoi, painting; Christian Boltanski, sculpture; Frei Otto, architecture; Steve Rich, music; and Maya Plisetskaya , theatre/film. The Dayton Art Institute presents the American premier of Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Art: Treasures from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt’s birth. The Royal Museums of Art and History present Masters of Pre-Columbian Art - The collection of Dora and Paul Janssen. The Museo Civico Archeologico presents Annibale Carracci, on view through January 7, 2007. The Royal Academy of Arts presents Auguste Rodin (1840 – 1917). Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt presents I Like America - Fictions of the Wild West. Art Forum Berlin, the international trade fair for contemporary art, took place at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 30 September to 4 October 2006.
