Tim Thyzel, Hooked, 2004, Peg board, metal hooks.

KNOXVILLE, TN.- The Knoxville Museum of Art presents the playful work of New York artist Tim Thyzel February 9 through June 10, 2007 as part of its acclaimed Design Lab series. In keeping with the spirit of Design Lab, Thyzels whimsical constructions blur the distinctions between art and life, using everyday objects to make us more aware of the aesthetic value of our surroundings. The exhibition features works from his Tiled series, assembled from bathroom tiles and plumbing fixtures, and Slots & Dots, a group of sculptures made from common pegboard, slot board, and hooks. The results are humorous, elegant, and surprising.
Thyzel studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Hamburg, Germany. He has had solo exhibitions at Cynthia Broan Gallery in New York and Deepdale Gallery in Germany. This is his first solo museum exhibition.
The artist discusses his work at a gallery talk at 6 pm Thursday, February 9. This event is open to the public and free with museum admission.
The Design Lab series is made possible with the generous assistance of the Lucille S. Thompson Family Foundation through its ongoing support of new initiatives at the museum.
