Modern Women - Female Painters in the Nordic

GÖTEBORG, SWEDEN.- The Göteborg Museum of Art presents Modern Women - Female painters in the Nordic countries 1910-1930, on view through May 27, 2007. The exhibition Modern Women aims to focus on some of the women painters of the Nordic countries from this period of transition and breakthrough. The artists represented include both well-known figures from the period alongside painters whose talents have been overshadowed by those of their husbands. The exhibition presents some of the most admired women artists of the time from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden, together with artists whom today’s public have never had a chance of meeting before. The selection will reveal that these Nordic women fully reflected ongoing developments within European art.

Modern Women is a collaboration between the Göteborg Museum of Art, Trondheim konstmuseum and GL STRAND in Copenhagen. The artists on show include Vera Nilsson, Sigrid Hjertén, Siri Derkert, Ebba Carstensen and Helene Schjerfbeck.
