ABU DHABI.- France and France and Abu Dhabi have signed a 30-year agreement that will allow Abu Dhabi to use the Louvre name on a new museum scheduled to open in 2012. French culture minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres satted France will receive financial benefits worth around 1bn over thirty years. The licensing of the Louvre name would bring in 400m.
The Abu Dhabi emirate will fund a new art research center in France and help restore a theatre in the Château de Fontainebleau. The Louvre will dedicate a floor in its Paris buildings to Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, late ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will be designed by Jean Nouvel with a large and shallow dome on top. The building will be between a Guggenheim museum designed by Frank Gehry and a performing arts center designed by Zaha Hadid. These buildings will be located in the island of Saadiyat.
