NEW YORK.- Christie’s is pleased to announce that Alexis Egan McCarthy has been appointed regional representative in the Philadelphia office, effective June 18. In this role, Ms. McCarthy will focus on business getting and building relationships with clients in the region, working closely with Christie’s specialist departments in New York and beyond. Christie’s Philadelphia office covers Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.
Ms. McCarthy will report to George McNeely, Senior Vice President, Business Development at Christie’s New York. She joins Paul Ingersoll, who opened Christie’s Philadelphia office in 1979 and remains with us on a part-time basis. Ms. McCarthy replaces Francie Ingersoll, who after four years with Christie’s in Philadelphia has left to spend more time with her family, but who remains a great friend to the firm.
“I am pleased to welcome Alexis to the Philadelphia office,” says Paul Ingersoll. “As a seasoned international executive, Alexis brings with her an impressive range of experience and skills to her new position.”
“Christie’s Philadelphia office has long been among our most important regional offices and a source of extraordinary works from collecting areas such as American Furniture, American Paintings, and Old Master Pictures. More recently, the office has been particularly productive in the area of Post-War & Contemporary Art, sending a number of major works by such important artists as Willem de Kooning, Andy Warhol and Lucian Freud from Philadelphia-area collectors to auction in New York and other important sales centers internationally. I look forward to working with Alexis as we continue to develop our business and client relationships in this important area,” says George McNeely.
This spring, the region also produced the Mary Cassatt painting, Children Playing with a Dog. Consigned by a member of the Cassatt family, this was the most significant work by the artist to come on the market in the last 20 years and sold for $6.2 million in May, setting a new world auction record for the artist.
Prior to joining Christie’s, Ms. McCarthy was the Chief Operating Officer of the Investment Management Division in Morgan Stanley’s Tokyo office. Before that, she was a Vice President, Client Relationship Manager/Product Specialist with Miller Anderson & Sherrerd, a privately-owned investment management firm, which was later acquired by Morgan Stanley. She has also held positions at Banque Indosuez, Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company, and the First National Bank of Boston.
Ms. McCarthy earned a B.A. degree in Economics & International Relations from Brown University. She lives in Malvern, Pennsylvania with her husband and three children. She is on the boards of the Balwin School, which she attended, and the Brown University Sports Foundation.
