Diego Rivera Mural On View After 20 Years in Storage
Diego Rivera, Juchitán River, 1953-1956.

MEXICO CITY.- A mural by Mexican painter Diego Rivera that had not been exhibited publicly for twenty years is now on view at the Centro Cultural Muros Museum of the city of Cuernavaca. The mural is titled Juchitán River and was painted between 1953 and 1956. It was originally designed to decorate the garden of the Cuernavaca house of Mexican film producer Santiago Reachi, who was partner of Cantinflas and Jacques Gelman in Posa Films.

When the house was sold in 1960 it was moved to the World Trade Center building in Mexico City. The hotel later closed and the work was stored until now. The mural is unique. This is the only mural by Rivera that shows both sides of the scenes. Rivera used Venetian mosaic to resist water as it would be outside next to a pool.
