MERANO, ITALY.- Kunst Meran presents an exhibition on Boris Mikhailov titled "Boris Mikhailov. Yesterday".. The exhibition was curated by Italian curator Valerio Dehò who is based in Bologna (Italy). The exhibition includes 32 photographs of his recently produced serie which is called "superimposition". In these photos Boris Mikhailov combined two of his older motives to create a new image. For Boris Mikhailov this is a new way to create an image. The show will be on view through September 23.
The duality of each image (given that two slides) coincides in a curious way with the duality of my own identity - my father is Ukranian and my mother Jewish. The violent anti-Semitism that was rife in the Soviet Union produced in my crisis of identity that was particularly painful. What was I, Jewish or Ukranian? Once, while we were taking a walk, my wife talked about her grandmother and the possessions she had left her. Suddenly I realized that I knew nothing about my roots. (Boris Mikhailov).
