LEVENT, TURKEY.- Artvarium, The project room of the Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art is now exhibiting Nancy Atakan’s video installation: “and”. “and” is a video made of using a range of media including film, photography, drawing, stop motion animation, collage, poem and sound.

Language and the ambiguity caused by it are main the basing points of Nancy’s work. Relationships, connections, translations are her keywords. With these keywords she arrives to “and” as a symbol of three of them. “and” meant to connect two words, two sentences, two concepts, two meanings, however, is never able to connect them literally. It stays always in between, desperate with creating a connection, written in small letters, meaningless without the figures that it is to connect…

Nancy Atakan, in this video, puts her self in place of “and”, committing to function as “and”, by connecting two different dream places of hers. She is in neither of the places, however tries desperately to connect them, although she is aware of the fact that actually is unable to reach either of them.
