Call for Artists - Public Art Project for Graves Bridge



CALGARY.-The City of Calgary Public Art Program , in conjunction with Transportation Infrastructure, is seeking Expressions of Interest (i.e. Request for Qualifications) from experienced artists with a demonstrated ability to design artwork and/or aesthetic enhancements into transportation infrastructure. Relevant experience working on bridge structures will be considered an asset.

The aesthetic enhancement of the new Graves Bridge over the Bow River along Glenmore Trail shall be designed by an artist with practical and demonstrated experience in the field of public art. The artist must also be able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and work within set budgets and project schedules.

The new Graves Bridge is located in southeast Calgary and is adjacent to the residential communities of Odgen and Riverbend as well as Fairview Industrial Park and Burns Industrial Park . The new bridge will be constructed north of the existing Graves Bridge and as a part of the Glenmore Trail Improvements. It will carry the westbound lanes of Glenmore Trail and provide interim pedestrian access. The bridge is a six span structure and will consist of precast concrete girders and concrete piers and abutments.

The total artist budget for concept, design, and overseeing fabrication and installation for consistency with artistic concept is $72,710.00. The responsibility of fabrication and installation will be determined at a later date. The total public art construction budget for this project is $238,590.00.
