The Golden Mountain: China and Canada, Interconnected

MONTREAL, CANADA.- This year, the McCord Museum’s 2007 Colloquium: The Golden Mountain: China and Canada, Interconnected, will focus on the historical, cultural, economic and political ties which bind Canada and China. This year’s Colloquium is organized in association with Concordia University. The Colloquium will take place over three days, from Thursday, November 1st to Saturday, November 3rd, and will explore the dynamic interactions between both countries from historical and contemporary multi-disciplinary perspectives.

The great effervescence that is currently propelling China forward is reported upon almost on a daily basis in the media. The Colloquium will start off with a round table on the theme: Presenting China – Canadian Journalists in China. This event will comprise Canadian journalists steeped in the Chinese reality because they have lived and worked in China.

A highlight of the Colloquium’s rich program is an evening of musical exchange with a Chinese contemporary and classical concert. The Golden Mountain of Music will take place on Friday, November 2nd, at the Théâtre J.A. Bombardier. The closing banquet is on Saturday, November 3rd, where our invited guest speaker, Denise Chong, author and journalist, will present “Can I include her in my contract? She doesn’t eat much. Making ends meet: artefacts, memory and interconnections”.

This Colloquium is a complement to the Souvenirs of Here, The Photographic Album as Private Archives exhibition. Dr. Victoria Dickenson, Executive Director of the McCord Museum, will take an active role in the Colloquium and will also be available to meet with representatives of the media.

You can find the complete program online at the following link: http://www.mccord-museum.qc.ca/en/activities/colloquia/

Registration costs for the Colloquium are $50 for Friends of the McCord and students, and $100 for the general public. The Friday evening concert is free for participants in the Colloquium; the entry cost for Friends of the McCord is $20 and $30 for the general public. Tickets for the banquet cost $65. Reservations are required for this event, either by phone at 514-398-7100 extension 222, or email at linda.st-pierre@mccord.mcgill.ca.
