Are They Alive? Dynamic Portraits By Treiops Treyfid |

ECHO PARK, CA.- Chango Coffee House and Gallery is proud to present, Are They Alive?, a solo show of artwork by Los Angeles artist, Treiops Treyfid. The exhibition will run from February 1 through February 27, 2008 and an opening reception will take place on Saturday February 2nd from 7pm - 10pm.
Are They Alive? consists of a series of dynamic portraits. These are artworks in the form of relief sculpture created through a complicated process using exotic materials such as holographic foil and polyester resin. Holographic foil is a material which seems to have energy bursting from it. The basic imagery for the pieces comes from photographs of wig forms and manikins, which are fake representations of humans. The contrast between the seemingly "alive" holographic material and the imagery from "not-alive" wig forms is fascinating and dualistic.
About the Artist: Treiops Treyfid was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended The Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. He has been a lifelong artist and his works are well-respected. He has been living in Hollywood, California for the last several years, and has a studio in downtown Los Angeles at the prestigious Crescent Creamery. He is very active in the art community of Los Angeles and participates in many shows and events. His style could be described as Visionary Contemporary. Whether through sculpture, assemblage, painting, or video Treyfid's bold and focused concepts are always elegantly realized. You can see more of his work at www.treiops.com.
