EDINBURGH.- Royal Scottish Academy presents Jackie Anderson Exhibition: RSA Alastair Salvesen Scholar 2007, on view 14 March – 20 April 2008. This exhibition features a series of new works by Jackie Anderson, recipient of the 2007 RSA Alastair Salvesen Scholarship. Jackie used her scholarship to do research in the Caribbean, chronicling Trinidadian city life and exploring how people occupy and pass through public places. Material gathered on the streets of different towns and cities informed a series of large and small paintings. Most of the smaller works were painted in her studio in Port of Spain, Trinidad’s capital, which gave her the opportunity to become involved in Trinidad’s art community where she found the feedback of the local artists invaluable.

The painting & travel award of up to £10,000 is one of the largest independent Art Scholarship in Scotland and includes a solo exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. Sponsored by the Alastair Salvesen Trust and administered by the Royal Scottish Academy, the RSA Alastair Salvesen Art Scholarship is a major initiative intended to encourage young painters in Scotland who have made the transition from college to a working environment. The prize money funds travel for up to six months and previous winners have travelled to China, Alaska, the Middle East and the South Seas!
