PARIS.-The Jeu de Paume presents Valérie Mréjen: la place de la concorde, on view through June,15, 2008. Artist, photographer and writer Valérie Mréjen uses multiple mediums of expression the better to explore the possibilities of language. Her videos are often inspired by memories, everyday events, the cruel or comical details of existence, commonplaces and misunderstandings. In them she often mingles different kinds of narrative, whether told by others or experienced herself. These she rewrites and rearranges and then stages with actors or people from her entourage.

The exhibition brings together 13 well-known works from Valérie Mréjen’s career so far: Bouvet (1997), Au revoir, merci, bonne journée (1997), Une noix (1997), Sympa (1998), Anne et Manuel (1998), Jocelyne (1998), Le Projet (1999), Il a fait beau (1999), Des larmes de sang (2000), Le Goûter (2000), Titi ou les kiwis (2000), Blue Bar (2000), Portraits filmés (2002).

Five new pieces have been produced specially for this exhibition at Jeu de Paume: Capri, Ils respirent, Voilà c'est tout, Hors saison, and Ce que je déteste. Capri and Ils respirent were made in collaboration with Caroline Champetier on the camera.

Other works by Valérie Mréjen will be presented in the auditorium, among them, La Défaite du rouge-gorge (2001), Chamonix (2002), Pork and Milk (2004) and Dieu (2004). The artist has been given carte blanche for the programme of the four cinema evenings. Exhibition in partnership with À Nous Paris, Blast, FIP et Télérama.
