Kimbell Art Museum Launches Photo Contest on Impressionists Microsite

FORT WORTH.- The Kimbell Art Museum invites photographers, professionals and amateurs alike, to let their cameras be their paintbrushes and submit modern interpretations of Impressionist paintings to the Kimbell’s “Create An Impression” photo contest. The paintings for translation into the medium of photography are a Monet garden view, a Renoir scene of friends having lunch together, a Van Gogh still life, and a Caillebotte streetscape. Contest winners will be chosen online by visitors who will vote for their favorite on The Impressionists microsite. On a monthly basis during the exhibition, the entry with the most votes will be awarded an exclusive tour by a Kimbell curator, admission to the exhibition, and dinner for six at the Kimbell Art Museum during The Impressionists: Master Paintings from the Art Institute of Chicago.

Commented Malcolm Warner, the Kimbell’s acting director: “Almost everything the Impressionists painted was exciting to them because it was part of the modern world—the here and now. What would their compositions look like today? I look forward to seeing what people come up with, and suspect we are in for some surprises.”
