MIAMI.- 2008―In anticipation of its move to a new 120,000 square foot home in downtown Miami, Miami Art Museum (MAM) continues to build its collection. In the last year, 44 gifts and acquisitions have entered MAM’s permanent collection, strengthening the museum’s holdings of 20th and 21st century art and further enabling MAM to serve a diverse audience.

“We’re especially pleased that many of the works that have entered the collection over the past year represent artists whose work has been exhibited at the museum. There is a resonance between our exhibition and collection goals, and the collection increasingly reflects the museum’s exhibition history, as well as our vision for the future of MAM,” Director Terence Riley said.

Among the notable gifts are:

MAM’s role as a hub between continents and cultures is reflected in its permanent collection. Among the artists represented in the museum’s growing collection are Carlos Alfonzo, José Bedia, Chuck Close, Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ann Hamilton, Guillermo Kuitca, Wilfredo Lam, Sol LeWitt, Doug Aitken, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lorna Simpson.
