MIAMI.- 2008―In anticipation of its move to a new 120,000 square foot home in downtown Miami, Miami Art Museum (MAM) continues to build its collection. In the last year, 44 gifts and acquisitions have entered MAMs permanent collection, strengthening the museums holdings of 20th and 21st century art and further enabling MAM to serve a diverse audience.
Were especially pleased that many of the works that have entered the collection over the past year represent artists whose work has been exhibited at the museum. There is a resonance between our exhibition and collection goals, and the collection increasingly reflects the museums exhibition history, as well as our vision for the future of MAM, Director Terence Riley said.
Among the notable gifts are:

Several of the new gifts will be featured in upcoming exhibitions at MAM, including Shadows, Disappearances and Illusions, on view in the Upper Level Gallery through September 21, 2008, and an installation of Selections from the Permanent Collection, on view in the Plaza Level Gallery from August 8-November 2, 2008.
MAMs role as a hub between continents and cultures is reflected in its permanent collection. Among the artists represented in the museums growing collection are Carlos Alfonzo, José Bedia, Chuck Close, Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Ann Hamilton, Guillermo Kuitca, Wilfredo Lam, Sol LeWitt, Doug Aitken, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lorna Simpson.
In honor of the museums tenth anniversary, MAM organized Power of Ten, an exhibition featuring major gifts to the museum. The works which have joined MAMs permanent collection since the spring 2007 opening of Power of Ten include:
