Taking Shape: Geometric Abstraction from the Collection of the Ulrich Museum of Art
Work of art by Edna Andrade.

WICHITA, KS.- Contrasting two primary colors—yellow and blue—and repeating a single, simple form—a bisected circle—with only slight modification, painter Edna Andrade plays tricks with our eyes. She makes the canvas pulse and vibrate, and prompts us to think about optical effects and how we see things. Andrade’s painting, "Yellow Turn" (pictured at left), is just one of many artworks from the Ulrich’s rich holdings of abstract art, works in which artists explore an idea, concept, or emotion through non-representational means. This summer we highlight a selection of these works, displaying paintings, prints, and sculpture.
