Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

HUMLEBAEK.- The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art presents Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation, on view through February 15, 2009. The history of art takes on a new dimension with the artist Eve Sussman (b. 1961), when her film installations awakens classic paintings from their centuries of sleep. The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition is showing two of Sussman’s most recent works: one of them, 89 Seconds at Alcázar, 2004, is a close paraphrase of the painting by the Spanish court painter Diego de Velázquez (1599-1660) of the Spanish Royal Family, Las Meninas, 1656. The other work, The Rape of the Sabine Women, 2005, takes its point of departure in another of the striking works of art history, the French painter Jacques-Louis David’s painting of the same name from 1796-99. Eve Sussman enters into the work and visualizes the myth behind the painting in an 89-minute film. A selection of the stills that Eve Sussman creates in collaboration with selected photographers on the basis of the film works will also be shown in the exhibition.
