Jersey City Museum Bids Farewell to Longtime Director

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Jersey City Museum, Hudson County’s premier arts and cultural institution, announced today that Marion Grzesiak will step down as Executive Director next month. Ms. Grzesiak joined the Museum in November 2001 as it reopened to the public in its current home at 350 Montgomery Street.

Assuming the position of Interim Executive Director and leading the nationwide search for a new director is Nathan Sambul, Chair of the Museum’s Board of Trustees. “Marion has done a tremendous job in taking the Museum to the next level,” Mr. Sambul said, “and we are indebted to her for her commitment, expertise and energy. By working with city, county and state officials, as well as individual, corporate and foundation donors, she has helped the Jersey City Museum grow to be a beacon of art and education in Jersey City and the greater metropolitan area. We will look for an individual who will continue to expand the Museum as she had done, and we wish her the very best in her new position.”

Ms. Grzesiak helped establish the Jersey City Museum as an important center for contemporary art; garnering praise from the press and three awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, among other accomplishments. Reflecting on her years of service, Ms. Grzesiak said, “Jersey City was my home for 7½ years; I made many good friends and gained a deep appreciation for the cultural richness and pride of this remarkable community. It was a privilege to lead this wonderful organization, and I want to thank everyone, especially the Museum’s members, Board, volunteers, and the artists’ community, for their commitment and support over the years.” Ms. Grzesiak will join the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit as Executive Director in April 2009.
