PORTO.- On May 29th Serralves will commemorate the 20th anniversary of creation of the Serralves Foundation (in 1989) and the 10th anniversary of inauguration of Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (in 1999).

This dual anniversary will be celebrated with an official dinner and inauguration of this year’s main exhibition, Serralves 2009 – the Collection. Constituted exclusively by works from the Serralves Collection of Contemporary Art, the exhibition will occupy the museum’s entire exhibition area and will be inaugurated on the day of commemoration of these dual anniversaries – Friday, May 29th.

The 6th edition of Serralves em Festa – one of Europe’s biggest festivals of contemporary artistic expression – will be staged over the weekend (May 30th and 31st). The central theme of this year’s festivities will be commemorations of the dual anniversaries of the Foundation and the Museum. Serralves em Festa (the Portuguese expression for Party at Serralves) will bring 40 hours of nonstop activities to the city of Oporto, in the fields of music, dance, performance, theatre, circus, cinema, video, photography, etc. Hundreds of artists and tens of thousands of visitors will pass through Serralves from 8 a.m. Saturday, May 30th, to midnight Sunday, May 31st. In 2008, this Party received more than 80,000 visitors.
