More than a Bookstore, Larry Gagosian Opens New Space to Sell Exclusive Works
Damien Hirst Products, Collaboration between Jean Prouve & Charlotte Perriand.

NEW YORK, NY.- Gagosian is the first retail outpost of Gagosian Gallery. Located at street level on Madison Avenue, it is an extension of world-renowned art dealer Larry Gagosian’s impeccable taste and, like the gallery, will collaborate with both established and emerging artists on exclusive works that will be available in the shop and online. The space will feature all Gagosian publications, posters, and prints as well as limited edition items by John Currin, Tom Friedman, Ellen Gallagher, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Marc Newson, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Tom Sachs, and Franz West. There will also be a video art projection wall and reading lounge. Through artful commerce, the shop will allow customers to experience an eclectic and unusual mix of contemporary art and design in a democratic atmosphere.

As part of the launch, Other Criteria will open its first and only location in the United States on the lower level of the store. Launched in 2005, Other Criteria began as a publishing company headed up by Damien Hirst, Hugh Allen and Frank Dunphy, with creative director Jason Beard. Evolving organically from a website, the company opened shop fronts in London on New Bond Street and Hinde Street. Stocking a handpicked array of established and emerging artists, the store prides itself on “great quality art by the best artists and making it available to everyone.” Each artist’s collection is complimented with a book release through Other Criteria.

Opened in 1979 in New York by Larry Gagosian, Gagosian Gallery is one of the world's foremost modern and contemporary art galleries and one of the few that can lay claim to a truly global reach. With the addition of the Athens space, there are now nine locations worldwide, including New York, Beverly Hills, London, Rome, and Hong Kong.
