LONG ISLAND CITY, NY.- P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center announces the launch of Studio Visit, a website that invites artists and collectives to virtually exhibit their works and invite viewers into their studio spaces. Continuing P.S.1s tradition of presenting works by emerging artists, Studio Visit encourages the local and international artist community to participate in what will serve as an online artistic pool of information and a research tool for future exhibitions. The website officially launches February 1 on
http://ps1.org/studio-visit/.
Studio Visit is an initiative in which artists offer viewers a virtual studio tour that begins with an image of the actual studio building, then follows with an artist statement, images of the studios interior, a satellite map that designates the studio location, and still images and/or video of the artists works. Artists submissions will be present on the website for at least one month. In its initial period, the website will encourage the New York City and surrounding area artist community to participate, but prospectively, Studio Visit will be open for national and international submissions.
Until recent years, P.S.1 had a studio program in which the audience was invited to visit the artist on site of their production as works were being produced and debuted for the first time. Studio Visit revitalizes this idea of offering the visitor a direct experience with artists of varied artistic practices and their works by presenting a virtual studio excursion.
Since its foundation, P.S.1 is one of the most truly international and at the same time extremely local spaces for art in New York City. Studio Visit connects the old traditions of being able to visit studios at P.S.1 with the opportunity to discover new artists on our website. In the midterm, we are trying to achieve and to offer a complex research tool not only for P.S.1 but also for interested visitors of our website, says P.S.1 Director Klaus Biesenbach.
