LOS ANGELES, CA.- LAXART is pleased to announce Superclogger, Los Angeles-based artist Joel Kyack’s first public project. Conceived with Peter Fuller, a Providencebased artist and bike mechanic, and developed out of Kyack's interest in chaos, performance, and the relationship between individual will and collective control, Superclogger presents various puppet shows to drivers caught in traffic from a mobile theater housed in the back of a nondescript white pickup truck. An FM broadcaster placed inside the truck and similar to those used in drive-in movie theaters sends soundtracks of the various shows via radio waves to the viewing cars’ stereos.

“We are extremely excited to launch this new project,” says Lauri Firstenberg, Founding Director if LAXART. “It expands Joel’s practice into the public domain of city-spaces work and it will operate as yet another experimental production in our already long history of exhibitions.” Superclogger engages the traffic jam as a formal materialization of the principles of chaos, providing a direct experience with the evolving conditions that can effect a system and help to predict outcomes – in this instance, a person breaking a millisecond earlier than expected because of the puppet show would, over time, drastically change traffic patterns. Intervening in the commute experience of people driving behind the truck, Superclogger aims to briefly halt the progression of chaos by temporarily drawing the audience out of the commute experience and placing them within an intimate space of engagement that highlights their own individual presence within the broader structure of the traffic jam.
