NEW ORLEANS, LA.- Three renowned arts professionals, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Fairfax Dorn and Donna Rosen, have been tapped to serve as jurors for the 14th annual No Dead Artists Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Art. All three have extensive experience as curators and collectors and all three have close ties to the Whitney Museum of American Art as well as a number of other well-known art museums and institutions. A presentation of ArtDaily.org and the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, this year’s NDA exhibition runs from September 1—25 at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans. Submissions are open to American artists from all fifty states working in all media, and must be entered by the closing deadline of July 8, 2010.

Founded in 1995 by former investment banker turned gallerist, Jonathan Ferrara, No Dead Artists was established as a response to the old adage that artists never achieve success until they die. And there is some truth to the old cliché—collectible works by dead artists are a known quantity, after all, and have categorically risen in value at a rate over 6% higher than the S&P 500 over the past decade according to NYU’s Mei/Moses Art Index. But the bottom line is that for any works to increase in value, the artist must first become known, preferably while still among the living, and that is not always easy. Most galleries stick with the tried and true in order to cover costs and preserve profits, rendering the whole process something of a circular proposition that underscores the value of the exposure an open exhibition such as N DA provides to talented emerging artists. Now in its 14th year, it has attracted the interest of distinguished collectors and curators who have often lent their expertise as jurors, and Beth Rudin DeWoody, Fairfax Dorn and Donna Perett Rosen all reflect that depth of experience through the critical role they play in some of America’s most influential arts institutions.

Beyond her duties on the boards of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Creative Time, the New School University and Brooklyn Academy of Music, Beth Rudin DeWoody is a trend-setting independent curator and influential collector of contemporary art. She also serves on the Photography Steering Committee of the Norton Museum and is president of The Rudin Family Foundations.

Fairfax Dorn is currently a board member of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Judd Foundation, Exit Art and the Centre Pompidou Foundation, Paris and Los Angeles, in addition to her role as co-founder and Executive Director of Ballroom Marfa, the trend setting non-profit visual and performance arts space in Marfa, Texas. A staunch advocate for artistic freedom of expression, she has guided Ballroom Marfa's mission to serve international, national, regional and local communities and support both emerging and recognized artists working in all media.

Donna Perret Rosen serves as a Trustee of The Whitney Museum of American Art and the New Orleans Museum of art and is a Vice-Chairman of the American Friends of the British Museum. She was the director of New Orleans’ legendary Galerie Simonne Stern for 23 years, during which she was instrumental in the transformation of the city’s Warehouse District into the Downtown Arts District that it has become.

The jurors’ selection process commences once the submission period officially closes on July 8, 2010.
