OSLO.- Ernesto Neto (b.1964) is one of our era’s most sought after artists. The Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art presents an exhibition featuring a rich selection of Neto’s works. Since this is the first time his work will be seen in such scope, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to become acquainted with key aspects of his artistic practice.

Ernesto Neto’s neo-modernistic sculptures are rooted in European and Brazilian modernistic traditions. His works are often described as biomorphic structures relating in various ways to the human body’s physiognomy and actions; the works can be said to imitate bodily forms and initiate interaction with the spectator. Key sculptural issues, such as the relation between volume and gravity, are underlying themes in his art. At the same time, Neto is known for using colorful and fragrant spices as artistic materials, elements lending a strong sensory presence.

In the exhibition ‘Intimacy’, we present several key works from the recent decade. Several of these were created for specific locations or museums, so when seen together, they offer an interesting overview of Neto’s use of materials and the conceptual development of his production.
