BASEL, SWITZERLAND.- Ornamentum Gallery will be the first and only contemporary jewelry gallery to be accepted as an exhibiting design gallery Design Miami/ Basel– the sister fair of Design Miami/, June 15 – 19, 2011.

Ornamentum Gallery joined the roster of the world’s most important design galleries at Design Miami/ in 2008, by introducing the exciting medium of contemporary jewelry and jewelry derived-art objects. The gallery’s booth highlighted works from significant names in the field.

“The momentum has been growing over the past three Design Miami/ exhibitions. We felt that it was the right time to take this step and introduce the gallery, and the field of contemporary jewelry to the Basel edition of the fair,” states Ornamentum co-director Stefan Friedemann.

The vetting committee for this highly competitive fair agreed. They chose Ornamentum Gallery to represent the field. Design Miami/ Director of Exhibitions Alexandra Cunningham states, "Ornamentum presents a selection of contemporary jewelry that is as impressive as it is progressive. Combined with the gallery's talent for conceptually advanced exhibition design and academic contributions to the fieldcurating collections and exhibitions -truly with the intent of developing knowledge for contemporary jewelry by researching and developing projects with designers who are furthering jewelry design without neglecting the historical tradition. Ornamentum is an exciting addition to the gallery program of Design Miami/ Basel 2011."

As a member of the Design Miami/Basel Gallery Selection committee, Didier Krzentowski, director of the renowned Gallery Kreo, Paris and noted expert in furniture and contemporary art explains “Ornamentum constantly looks for works that are new, different, and the highest quality artists. Ornamentum is one of the best contemporary jewelry galleries in the world.”
