Phillips de Pury & Co. announces highlights from its forthcoming Design & Nordic Design Auctions

LONDON.- Phillips de Pury & Company announced the highlights from its London Design and Nordic Design auctions in September.

An important and rare private collection of Italian Glass including works by Carlo Scarpa and Vittorio Zecchin will be offered in the Design Auction. Other impressive highlights include works by 20th and 21st century designers such as Shiro Kuramata, Diego Giacometti, Armand Rateau, Jean Prouvé, Marc Newson, Ron Arad, Martin Szekely and Jean Royère.

The Nordic Design sale concentrates on iconic and exceptional works from Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

The auctions together are estimated to generate £3.1 - £4.3m and include approximately 250 lots.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DENMARK:
The Danish group offers works by Poul Henningsen, the master of Scandinavian Lighting Design. The sale includes five exceptional Henningsen works culminating in the Bombardment Chandelier. An impressive group of sculptural ceramics by Axel Salto, spanning his budding, sprouting, knobbed and fluted phases are on offer as are works by Finn Juhl and Poul Kjærholm and design duo Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SWEDEN:
The Swedish section celebrates the unique style of Design produced in this region as well as examining the classical voice of the Nordic landscape. Rugs by Barbro Nilsson and works by Svenskt Tenn’s legendary designer, Josef Frank are among the lots on offer.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM FINLAND:
These highlights continue to bare the soul of Finnish Design, exploring nature and texture. Included is a wonderful collection of glass pieces by Timo Sarpaneva and Tapio Wirkkala and a great group of works by Alvar Aalto including his impressive beehive ceiling lamps. Walter Jung’s early and rare vase will be offered in the sale, the only other example of the work currently exhibited in the Helsinki Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.
