NEW YORK, NY.- John Van Doren and Dorsey Waxter announce the formation of Van Doren Waxter, a new gallery located at 23 East 73rd Street. Van Doren Waxter will open on February 20, 2013 with an exhibition of the late American abstract painter John McLaughlin.

Van Doren Waxter represents the evolution in the partnership between Van Doren and Waxter who have worked together for 15 years at Greenberg Van Doren Gallery. Van Doren Waxter will work extensively with artists' estates including those of James Brooks, Richard Diebenkorn and Alan Shields. The gallery will also focus on secondary market business, specializing in works by artists including John Chamberlain, Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, Hans Hofmann, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Motherwell and Ed Ruscha. In addition, the gallery plans to produce innovative exhibitions with artists whom Van Doren and Waxter have worked in the past. These include Tim Davis, Judy Fiskin, Katsura Funakoshi, Alexander Gorlizki, Eva Lundsager, Cameron Martin and Dorothea Rockburne.

The opening exhibition will feature 8 paintings created by John McLaughlin between 1947 and 1974. This exhibition will trace the development of McLaughlin's career and will explore aspects of his work including form and spatial relationships as well as the use of color and the progression toward an exclusive palette of black and white.

The new gallery is located on the first two floors of a landmarked Upper East Side townhouse built in 1905. Slade Architecture, a New York firm, has reconfigured the interior to celebrate the original space while creating an environment to highlight art and the viewing experience. Slade's subtle interventions reinforce the classic, existing rooms including an entry foyer, a main gallery with French Doors and a second, more intimate gallery. Offices are located on an adjacent floor.
