Current Executive Director, Kate Fowle, will become Chief Curator of the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, while remaining at ICI as Director-at-Large.

Proch has served as ICI’s Deputy Director since 2009, working alongside Fowle to reposition the organization, which was founded in 1975. Over the past three years, ICI has connected established and emerging curators, artists, and institutions worldwide, producing 22 exhibitions, launching new research programs to further curatorial discourse including 3 international conferences, fellowships for curators, the Curator’s Perspective talk series, and 2 new publication series, Artists’ Sourcebook and Perspectives in Curating. In 2010, ICI also began its flagship international training program, the Curatorial Intensive, for working curators around the world, and in 2011 launched the Curatorial Hub, which is the first temporary operational base, library, and event space in New York for curators.

“I look forward to working with practitioners to continue developing ICI as a curatorial platform that promotes a broad range of voices in support of art practice”, Proch said. “2013 will be a year of expansion for ICI with the Curatorial Intensive taking place in Argentina, Colombia, Ireland, Japan, and South Africa, as well as the launch of do it: the compendium to mark the 20th anniversary of the project conceived and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist that has involved over 400 artists since 1993.” In her role as Director-at-Large, Fowle will continue to oversee the development of the Curatorial Intensive program, as well new publications and special projects such as the upcoming conference ICI is developing in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Prior to this he was the Senior Director at the Project in New York, where he worked on developing the careers of a roster of 21 artists, as well as the Director of MC, in Los Angeles, a gallery dedicated to the production and presentation of new solo projects by internationally established artists. Originally from Switzerland, Proch studied in London, and moved to the West Coast of the U.S. in 2001. He co-founded ART2102 of Los Angeles in 2003, a non-profit organization that incorporated gallery-based exhibitions, panel discussions, and screenings to expand the dialogue between local, international, emerging, and mid-career artists. Most recently, he co-curated a retrospective of South African artist Tracey Rose for the Johannesburg Art Gallery, South Africa, and the Umea Bildmuseet, Sweden, which also traveled to the Nikolaj Kunsthall in Copenhagen, Denmark.
