LACOSTE.- The Savannah College of Art and Design exhibitions department presents an exhibition of work by fashion tastemaker and illustrator Antonio Lopez titled Antonio Lopez and the World of Fashion Art, taking place July 4 through Aug. 24.

First presented in the SCAD Museum of Art’s André Leon Talley Gallery, the only dedicated couture gallery in the southern United Sates, this exhibition presents a rich overview of the creative and vivid work of fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez (1943-87). Inspired by his muses, contemporary culture and a broad range of historical and artistic movements, Lopez forged a diverse body of work rendered in pencil, ink, charcoal, watercolor and film. Curated by André Leon Talley, SCAD trustee, Numéro Russia editor-at-large and Vogue contributing editor, the exhibition features three decades of Lopez’s creative output, including select works from the Antonio Lopez archive.

“Antonio’s work is truly legendary and encapsulates the creative genius of an era,” said SCAD chief curator, Isolde Brielmaier, Ph.D. “It is such a wonderful opportunity and privilege to share his ideas and vision with our Lacoste students this summer¬—all of whom are a part of SCAD’s fashion design department. Having this exhibition on view will be a particularly rich experience for them, as well as for the community of Lacoste and the surrounding Provence region.”

Lopez was the subject of a solo exhibition at The Suzanne Geiss Company in September 2012 as well as the recently published book Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex, and Disco for which Talley contributed the introduction. Lopez's seminal works, which adorned the pages of Vogue, The New York Times, Women's Wear Daily and Interview throughout the 1970s and 1980s, remain a powerful source of inspiration, galvanizing contemporary visual culture through a variety of disciplines including fine art, digital media and fashion.
