Yard Sale: A group show with a little bit of everything to open at Lesley Heller
Deborah Brown, Pod, 2012. Oil on canvas. 30 x 40 inches.

NEW YORK, NY.- Lesley Heller closes the summer season with Yard Sale, a group show with a little bit of everything-painting, sculpture, and photography.

Featuring the work of John Baber, Deborah Brown, Rachel Budde, George Chinsee, Ming Fay, Jack Henry, Grace Knowlton, Keiko Narahashi, Eung Ho Park, Harry Roseman, Rachel Selekman, Mary Jo Vath, and Daniel Wiener.

Spend the afternoon at the movies. Come to Matinée, a video exhibition presenting the work of Ira Eduardovna, Ben Hagari, Lenore Malen, Katherine Newbegin, Lothar Osterburg, and Tom Pnini.

Mother, (2013) by Ira Eduardovna, contemplates the fragile nature of social structures by symbolically including objects that suggest social status, time, and place. A dramatic event occurs and the objects are reset, suggesting the destruction will happen repeatedly. Ben Hagari’s, A Vegetable Talks Back at You, (2013) features musician Dale Stuckenbruck playing an array of instruments made from an unexpected material.

Lenore Malen, is a vertiginous exploration of New York City narrated through song and multiple layers of some of the city’s landmarks, including Central Park. Produced in collaboration with Danish songwriter, Cecilie Beck.

In Island, (2013), by Katherine Newbegin, reality is a mirage and the viewer is lured into the artificial environment of what appears to be a family vacation. Piranesi, (2013), by Lothar Osterburg employs stop animation, reconstructing the Carceri, the imaginary prisons created by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Tom Pnini’s Double Windsor, recalls Keaton’s film The Goat on screen while simultaneously playing a reproduction of the original scene. Filmed at the New England Railroad Museum, Double Winsor features an actual 80 year old coal-fired steam locomotive.
