LONDON.- Rook & Raven Gallery showcases Curtis Kulig’s first UK solo exhibition, devoted entirely to a new body of watercolour works on paper – a first from the American artist.

These new watercolor works offer an incredible malleability: they are exceptionally vulnerable, yet assertive and visually powerful.

Born in North Dakota in 1981. At age 12, Kulig began screenprinting in his father's shop, laying the foundation for his work as an artist. Today he lives and works in New York City, where his signature 'Love Me' campaign is fast becoming an icon. This two-word manifesto can be seen across a range of mediums, from rich canvases and metal sculptures, stolen rooftops and billboards, as well as playful product collaborations with brands like Smashbox, Vans & Colette; Love Me now adorns cities worldwide, including Berlin, Istanbul, Los Angeles, and Paris. His ability to blur the line between typography and iconography has made Curtis a fast-rising star in both art circles and the commercial spheres.

Curtis Kulig has exhibited internationally and recently commissions for brands including The Ace Hotel, Converse, Estee Lauder, HBO, Nike, Obey, and The Standard Hotel. His collaborations have extended to fellow artists Shepard Fairey and 60’s Hollywood photographer Terry O’Neill, branding ‘Love Me’ across photographs of Raquel Welch and The Rolling Stones, adding the weight of context to already iconic imagery.

Kulig continues to refine his aesthetic, sweeping his staple scripture on multilayered canvases, purposely leaving his pieces dripping with paint to maintain a fundamental municipal feel. The famous slogan has since evolved into a manifestation of resulting abstract forms, all derived from a simple statement, which further goes to cement his transition into Contemporary Art.
