These experiences frame Robert Williams’ art which combine elements of cartoon, California Kar Kulture, cinematic apocalypticism, porn, tattoo culture and film noir. Coming up through the Zap Comix scene Williams’ four decades of paintings, drawings and sculpture, have subsequently forged a new genre of contemporary art and paved the way for popular artists today to follow.

By founding Juxtapoz magazine, he helped create a new way to understand and access contemporary art.

Always controversial due to subject matter --you might recall the fallout surrounding his piece “Appetite For Destruction” when it became the cover art and title for the Guns N’ Roses 1987 album--Williams has generated a cult following. Yet mainstream recognition has eluded him.

Now aged 70, he continues to work from his home studio in the San Fernando Valley, married to his college sweetheart, while driving their hot rod as he prepares for 2014 show at the Tony Shafrazi gallery.

ROBERT WILLIAMS MR. BITCHIN’ examines the unconventional journey this artist has taken and his charmingly candid take on his career.

The film features interviews with: Don Ed Hardy, Debbie Harry, Anthony Kiedis, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, Slash, George DiCaprio, Mat Gleason, Axl Rose, Tony Shafrazi and Artie Shaw. It will have its California festival premiere this week at ComicCon on 7/20 followed by the screening at American Cinematheque (The Egyptian) on 7/30 (with Robert Williams and friends in attendance at both) and a North American DVD and VoD release.
