MUNICH.- Haus der Kunst would like to express its enthusiasm about the generous donation of the Goetz Collection to the State of Bavaria that was announced this morning.

Ingvild Goetz has been an authority and visionary collector of contemporary art for several decades and her comprehensive collection is unparalleled in both its quality and variety. Munich has many reasons for being proud to be the home of one of the world's richest private collections of contemporary art. The agreement gives the State of Bavaria the unique opportunity to expand and further strengthen its position as one of the world's leading venues for art and culture, particularly in the field of contemporary art.

In 2010, Haus der Kunst and the Goetz Collection initiated a long-term cooperation in which selections of videos and film installations from the collection are presented in Haus der Kunst. The former air raid shelter in Haus der Kunst was renovated and is now dedicated exclusively to the presentation of thematically curated exhibitions drawn from the renowned collection. Since its inauguration, the cooperation has proven to be successful beyond our expectations; currently the fifth series of works is on view.

As a leading and internationally renowned center for contemporary art, Haus der Kunst is recognized for its innovative exhibitions and public programs. The congenial partnership between Haus der Kunst and the Goetz Collection represents an outstanding base for deepening and expanding the existing cooperation. The intention is to further develop and present the collection by drawing on the institution's curatorial expertise and experience.
