MACON, GA.- The Museum of Arts and Sciences of Macon, Georgia presents a solo exhibition of the work of Corrine Colarusso: The Sunrise Show. Her large scale contemporary paintings redefine the genre of landscape and offer rich, contemplative experiences. Detailed and layered in curious ways, radiating with luminous color and wild imagination, Colarusso's paintings celebrate the complexities of our interconnectedness with the natural environment. The museum is honored to have her work in our permanent collection and to have the opportunity to exhibit this selected group of recent paintings completed 2010-2013.

She writes about her work for The Sunrise Show: Images of the sunrise in both high and low culture have been wrung out, used ubiquitously to comfort, to market and to minister to all ages, for all products and situations. In my paintings I reinvest the idea of sunrise with a kind of optimism for myself and the viewer. It is an attempt to re-capture an elementary sensation about the light on landscape. Sunrise connects us to an imagination and reality that is productive; it leaps over irony and dripping sentimentality in order to chart our course back into the world, so that we might minister to it, and ourselves, a bit more mindfully. Images can convey meaning. Deeper connections between nature and our inner selves are there for the taking if only we can see it.

Colarusso has been the recipient of many awards and grants including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and a Fulbright-Hayes research and travel grant to India and Nepal. She has been a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome, the Cortona Program of the University of Georgia, and the Ossabaw Island Project. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions and is included in numerous public, private and corporate collections.
